I don't think he would've been in slythering. With the knowledge of the houses and all and James being so proud of Gryffindor, I mean can you imagine him always talking about how great it was? But I don't know... maybe. I imagine James and Sirius with fake smiles but theirs insides burning. Lily and Remus would still be proud of Harry.
Well, by the epilogue I assume that most people brought up in the wizarding world don't know you can argue with the hat the only reason Harry was unable to was because he was unaware of this belief, y'know? Doing the impossible because you don't know it's impossible is a fantasy genre cliche sometimes. Having been brought up in the wizarding world he may have just sat down and waited to be sorted. (Harry may also have had a less volatile reaction to Draco, because being brought up by Lily and James, he would have had less contact with, and therefore less aversion to, Dudley.)
And basically Harry in canon was told Slytherin is synonymous with evil, then Malfoy confirmed that. If he was around the Marauders and Lily he would encounter a lot of anti-Slytherin prejudices, but there still might be a couple of words from Lily standing up for Snape (of the "he was on our side" kind) and maybe Andromeda, I think she was a Slytherin, as she wasn't blasted from the family tree until she married Ted Tonks. You're right, Harry would've had his fathers influence over how great gryffindor is and his mother's words about Slythering being not so bad. Anyways it would be cool to read about Harry picking on gryffindors and hufflepuffs, Lily sending him letters saying: it would be nice if Prof.Mcgonagall would not send us warnings about your behavior this week.
That would be so cool! I hadnt think about Snape! He would be friends with Lily again, telling her he's looking after him and oh the best part: how talented he is at potions! lol
