The Brandals @ Pocin!

Sep 23, 2006 08:04

Last Thursday I had a very interesting day. I had lunch with festivewind, taikoubou, arisuesei, amamiyarin and shediao. We ate in Solaria. The frozen cappuccino didn’t taste good.

After that, I went to Depok, to lemoneko’s house. We wanted to go to Starbuck’s and I wanted to watch The Brandals. The cigarette brand A Mild was sponsoring a free gig for some rock bands on the Parking Area of Pondok Cina Train Station with The Brandals as the main performers. Miu-chan wasn’t home yet, so I put my bag in her room. The bands had already begun playing - I could hear them clearly because the Parking Area is only about ten metres away from her home. Some of the bands were loud and exciting, some were so-so.

I then darted to Margo City Square and met Miu-chan at Starbuck’s. After that, we went back to her house, passing through the inside of Depok Town Square. The TV programme Superdeal 2 Milyar was being broadcast live from there. We then watched Zylgwyn’s new sinetron - the lad’s cute as ever, but the sinetron’s quality’s still questionable. At about 9 pm, when it’s time for Quintuplets on JakTV, I left her home and blended with the crowd. The kind of crowd that you’d meet if you attended a free gig. I tried to look for The Brandals (we’re friends in Multiply), thinking that perhaps I could get a pass to take some pics onstage. I didn’t, though. The Brandals were awesome, but they only played five songs - hey, it’s free and rather tightly scheduled, one could not protest.

The pics of the gig are available here (my joint Multiply account). But here are some pics for you:

(NOTE: IF THE PICS WON'T COME OUT, IT'S BECAUSE IMAGECAVE IS HAVING SOME PROBLEM WITH THEIR SERVER. Be patient, or go away and get back some hours later when the server's returned to normal.)

Eka and me. He’s such a nice guy (and he looked so vampirically pale - he always does!). Some elementary/junior high students approached him and they too took pictures with him. The children looked very happy and proud.
And haven’t I said that he’s such a nice guy? The first picture of us looked so bad and I wailed, "Oh my god, I look ugly! I’ll delete it first and let’s get photographed again together!"
He smiled and said, "It’s alright, it’s not ugly."
So I didn’t delete the picture, but I wouldn’t show it here. We did take another picture though ^____^

Ah, here’s Toni! He’s so cute, when I called him, "Toni!" he automatically posed like that! But I swear I didn’t know who’s the guy on his right. Another fan trying to be caught in a same frame with Toni!

And oh, yes. The Brandals announced that they had joined World Wildlife Fund and they suggested their fans do the same or at least visit the Indonesian WWF site first. Before the WWF, The Brandals have also supported at least three other NGOs, donating some of their profits to help the fight against poverty and environmental degradation. Yes, they’re as cool as that.

See the Brandals in drags here. And download many other Brandals exciting pictures from their Multiply account.

I’m also proud of:
- Sri Mulyani - the Indonesian finance minister, 2006’s Finance Minister of The Year (worldwide!) and yet she delivered an astonishing speech in the conference of IMF, World Bank, and Finance Ministers, telling the IMF to stop being a smartass (she didn’t exactly tell it that way) and just sending teams from Washington that would spend two weeks in a country and instantly issue policies that aren’t suitable with the country. WHAT A LADY! News here.
- Hugo Chavez, as usual!
- Non Alignment Movement!

And Etiq and Komeng had fun with the Twilite Orchestra last night. lemoneko and I would like to go too, but if we did we then had to sleep at Komeng's, but we just couldn't.

HAPPY RAMADHAN Y’ALL!
Now go and be a good person ;)
