Yesterday the high here was 12, I think. Wind chill was anywhere from -15, to 0. It was so cold. But it was a run day, and I had to go run. So, finally, at 3 o'clock, I get my butt in gear, and in layer upon layer, I get out the door in 11 degree weather. Although the wind chill was -1. I am telling you - cold. I was wearing a fleece hat, long undies (shirt and pants), a running shirt, sweatpants, gloves and a fleece sweatshirt with a hood, and I was wearing the hood over my fleece hat (and didn't take it off for the entire run, plus I wish I had a neck warmer of some kind too). I had grabbed 5 tissues but it wasn't enough for my running nose (I have a cold), and after I used all of them up I reached in for more and thought I felt a piece of candy, only to pull out a frozen snotty tissue (gross, sorry, but totally truthful!!). Uhh, cold!!!! I planned on running 6 miles yesterday and I have a great 3.1 mile route that I do regularly, so I was just going to run it in a circle, twice. I have a good 5-mile route too, but it is SO hilly and windy and it was just so cold, that I chickened out on that one. So as I came around the first time, my body was telling me to turn and go back home. It was so convincing. I was tired and cold and wanted to stop so bad. I kept running straight on though, and was glad in the end that I didn't give up. Running in the cold is hard. It feels almost like your muscles are frozen. It feels really hard to move. Not to mention all the layers of clothing make it hard to move. But I've come to the conclusion that I can run for much further with more ease in the cold, than I can in the heat. The past few times I've been at the gym on the treadmill have been horrible. My body has adapted to the cold running so much easier than the hot gym. I would love to get a treadmill and put it in my garage. I think that would be perfect for the days it is just too cold or snowy to go out.
Speaking of snow. We woke up to everything covered in snow. I don't even have a snow shovel yet, and I need one to get my car out of the driveway to get Jenna to ballet tonight. TONS of snow....probably 4 inches deep, maybe more. I am going to have to borrow the neighbors to get out of the driveway I believe. But I am kind of scared that my car might get stuck in the street!! I don't know much about driving in the snow.
Livea has been sick since midnight, Saturday. She woke up vomiting. Adam started 6 hours later. Livea vomited everything and anything she was given up until last night at 8:45, when I took her to the hospital. She vomited in the waiting room after she nursed. I could not keep anything down her. She had one wet diaper in that entire time, and it was at 8am yesterday morning. But no more after, until finally this morning again. They gave her an antinausea med, which worked. Wow, Brain Science. Sometimes I feel like I haven't been a mom long at all, other times I think I know all the tricks. She is better this morning, but slightly lethargic still. The kids are all eating chicken soup right now, including Livea, and she loves absolutely nothing more than she loves chicken soup (actually, she'd be fine with vegetable soup, because that is what she likes best about it). That will be really good for her. Luke came down with a fever Friday morning, he never vomited though. Jenna is fine. Josh and I both have colds.
There is so much going on this week. It is such a busy time. The kids have their last homeschool swim class on Friday, followed by a Christmas party for the same group (and it is a potluck, and we are supposed to bring two cookies per kid, and sprinkles to share so the kids can decorate). I have a FRG (Family Readiness Group) meeting interrupting the Christmas party that I really need to be at - and am supposed to bring a baked good for a bake sale (are people really going to buy?? weird). There is a coffee tomorrow night that I am not going to, as well as a women's ministry Christmas party on Thursday that I am not going to. It just gets to be too much for the kids, and I want them to be my focus, especially at Christmas time. Monday I am wrapping gifts at the Post Exchange. The money benefits HHC (Headquarters and Headquarters Company, my husbands unit). I am excited about this because I love to wrap gifts. But I'd like to know when I am supposed to bake anything for my neighbors, and my own family (I love baking!).
Josh is done with his field training this Thursday, possibly Wednesday night and then will be on leave after Friday. But he'll probably have a battallion shift (24 hours) sometime. Urg. We invited our friends over for Chrismtas Eve dinner, but they declined, because they are Catholic and fast and abstain beginning, I think yesterday until Christmas evening. They are fasting from meat, and also they aren't eating full meals. I told them I'd be happy to make a vegetarian entree, but they still declined.
I just shoveled the entire carport (wow, talk about crosstraining) and now it is snowing really hard. Errr, lots? I'm not sure of the snow lingo just yet. But it is coming down (and the weather channel said it'd be done snowing by this time today). It sure is pretty though.
I need to get the kids some gloves. They cannot all play in the snow together because we have mismatched gloves, and not even enough to go around. I have some nice ski-gloves that I've used about twice in my life, so Jenna can wear them and they're great - but the boys can't play with he because their hands are getting too cold (I think it is 12 out there right now).
