I am trying so hard not to die laughing here. I'm sitting at the airport in Cork. There are two German guys, maybe 18 or 20 years old. They stood in front of me in the check-in line and now they just sat down across from me in the waiting area. They have no clue I understand them. It is so fucking funny

LOL. I've had the same fun with Americans, time after time, in Germany. You'd think they'd realize that MOST Germans speak English fairly well, but they act like no one else in the world can understand them.

Okay, I enjoy the same thing, but a lot less often, with the occasional German I run into here. Plus, I grew up with a mother who thought she could get away with calling us names in German when she thought no one else would understand. I guess she didn't realize that the 3rd most common language in the State of Oregon is German, so quite a few people heard and understood her calling my brother a Saubalch! :D

See, I'm always surprised when non-Germans understand me. For me, German is such an obscure language and also brutally hard to learn. If it wasn't my mother tongue, I'd run away screaming.

I rarely pay attention to english-speaking tourists, but I have no shame when it comes to snickering about Germans abroad. None at all.
