Once upon a time there was a tiny podling...

I am not even close to finished with sgabigbang reading but I need to rec these two stories.

A Clear and Different Light by friendshipper & naye [Ensemble, minor John/Rodney - PG-13 - 88.000 words]

Prompt: Encounters with Alternate Realities.
Summary: Rodney McKay, raised by a pod of telepathic whales. John Sheppard, mage with fae blood. Teyla Emmagan, rune-scientist. Ronon Dex, winged soldier. On the waystation of Atlantis, they're about to become embroiled in an age-old war against a brutal enemy.

This story is like the best fantasy epic. There are scenes I am dying to see on the big screen. The authors took the SGA characters and made them larger than life. The world they created is filled with magic and wonder and adventure. Their Wraith are creatures of untold horrors (no kidding, they gave me goosebumps). It's not only the Team that is made to shine in this story but also minor characters get to play an important role. An utterly engrossing tale. I cannot recommend this highly enough. Even if SGA leaves you cold or you've never seen a single episode, read this as if it were original fic. It will amaze you. [ slightly spoilery feedback babble]

The Price That Life Exacts by cathalin [John/Rodney - NC-17 - 63.848 words]

Prompt: John is more Ancient than anyone realizes.
Summary: When John disappears without a trace during a routine mission, people in a beleaguered Atlantis eventually have to try to move on. Rodney never completely gives up hope of finding John, and though he soldiers on to help Atlantis, a year later he still lives every day with his grief.

What to say about a story that had me on the brink of tears with the very first scene? This story had me choked up with emotion more than once. If you haven't read anything of Cathalin's before, beware that she will break your heart in a dozen different ways before giving you the much needed happy end. She doesn't pull punches when it comes to pulling out the big guns of emotional hurt/comfort. John and Rodney will tear your heart to shreds. If you want big emotions, this is the story for you. Just keep tissues at the ready. You might need them before the end. [ more detailed spoilery feedback babble]

And now I am going to print out all 200K of Auburn's The Water Grinds the Stone so I can curl up with it on the plane to Germany tomorrow. Whee!
