oh, livejournal, this is getting tiresome

I have a facebook account I almost never use (I log in once every few months, look around, can't figure out the point, repeat 4 months later) and I don't use twitter. I will never ever crosspost anything I ever put on LJ to either website (I will crosspost my *own* stuff to dw and AO3 and I do periodically backup my LJ + comments on DW, but that ( Read more... )

I am really annoyed about the whole thing. I have a Dreamwidth account (same name), but I have a free one there, and a permanent LJ account. I am heavily invested in LJ and a few communities on it, and I don't have the same investment in DW. I don't read DW every day, and I only have three icons over there (which bothers me more than you might think). I don't expect all my friends and communities to migrate over there. A few friends have, and I read communities over there, but they're new comms.

I wish LJ would just quit messing us around! I hope they'll allow us to block the feature on our own accounts at a minimum, but we shouldn't have to block the feature, and I'm tired of the drama.

You can friend me at Dreamwidth and I'll add you to the appropriate lists (if I haven't already), but I only use it as a backup! Every few months, I just backup all my LJ entries there in case of massive LJ failure.

I don't really feel that invested in livejournal itself - I just have a ton of people who I only interact with on livejournal who aren't on dreamwidth (mostly on my other, personal account). There's very few communities I really am active in. And website-wise, I actually like DW better. I stay logged into both LJ And DW and check both and I try to comment on DW to people who crosspost (but it's hit and miss whether I do).

I'm really glad I didn't buy a permanent LJ account the times I was tempted to, and I totally understand the icon angst (though if you do move, it is possible to buy more, as I'm sure you know).

The thing is, given recent trends, I feel like LJ is increasingly out of touch with their non-Russian userbase, and is only likely to continue "messing us around" and instituting these "features" and for now, it's not yet bad enough for me to fully leave, but I can see where at some point it could happen, especially if more people I care about move, since it's those people keeping me here.

I've got you over there. And hear you on the "hit and run" problem.
