Fic I wrote
All the King's Horses | (PG-13) | 1295 words | 10/14/2009
Gen. Five Things that Never Happened to RepliCarter
Her brethren never learned to think past their programming and the most basic command to consume and reproduce. But Fifth did not build her from the same, tired, model and she has ambition and the ability to plan.
Important Cultural Traditions | (PG) | 1137 words | 11/02/2009
Gen. S10 team. Vala learns about a yearly tradition not far from the Springs and Daniel regrets not sticking with his "no"
"Well I can't fully understand the cultural appeal if I only watch, can I?" Vala smiled, bending over to unlace her boots. "Though I suppose if you want to keep me out of trouble, you'll have to join me."
Fic I read and loved (not a comprehensive list)
Legion the Things I Would Give to Oblivion by Auburn - is an older SGA fic I read long ago (when season one ended) and re-read off a rec. It's an apoca-fic of sorts spinning off the S1 finale and it's dark and there's character death but I love it.
Second Verse (Same as the First) by
friendshipper is dark in a different way, with John and Rodney and the rest of the mission really not understanding their impact on the people of Pegasus and Teyla seeing things all too well. Both wonderful fic and potential meta on everything the show writers choose to ignore.
Pieces by
nandamai - I missed this whenever I randomly clicked through Nanda's fic, but I'm glad I found it. Wonderful, angsty, apocafic with Jack and Daniel if "New Order" had gone differently.
Not This Again by
rebeccavoy was a response to the
sg1_five_things prompt "Five times Sam said ‘Not this again’ while on Atlantis" and is full of great character moments and glimpses of how Sam fit herself in.
Displacement by
smilebackwards is John Sheppard back on Earth during "The Return" and finding himself adopted by SG-1. Great characterization and chock-ful of wonderful moments.
Speaking of Vala by
troyswann from several years back, set in early S9, gives us the perfect glimpse of the tight-rope Vala walks between the mask she shows the world (the one Daniel reacts to) and the real person who has seen and done much too much she hides deep away.
Audacity by
penknife is achingly beautiful, mature, Sam/Jack/Daniel (NC-17) (spoilers for SGA finale). One of those well-written fics where the complicated bits of the relationship isn't ignored, but they're also mature adults who've known each other and depended on each other forever. Plus I never get tired of Sam and Daniel teaming up on Jack.
A Loose Bolt in a Complete Machine by
theemdash was a
stargate_summer fic and I have other fics from that ficathon on my to read list and ended up reading this first for some reason. It's set in early season 7, with SG-1 returning to a planet they've been to before (it's a sequel to a fic but I was fine never reading it). This is one of the things I love about fanfic - one of those masterful stories with gritty world-building and new technology that feels like classic sci-fi. It does include the Jack/Daniel pairing, but most of the story read to me as a team fic with a few side notes, so I recommend it to gen-inclined people also.
The Geocentric Days are Gone by
dizzydame is a very sweet Sam/Daniel fic with both of them old and grey but still top on each other's speed dials. It's always how I saw things going, when I could imagine them having a somewhat-happy ending.
Five Promotions Paul Davis Never Got by
mrspollifax gives us five subtle AU's and a great fleshing out of a character we only see occasional bits of in canon. And when you're done, help me convince her to expand #3 into a longer fic :)
Roadside Service by
penknife - Sheppard is in San Francisco and, to his dismay, has to ask Sam and Rodney for help with an embarrassing problem. Short, hilarious, in character, witty. Even if you're an SG-1 only fan, worth a read for the Sam and the Daniel reference.
Jump over to Being Human for a minute and
paperclipbitch's
He Closes Early on Thursdays which gives us 15 ways season one didn't end. Do not read if you haven't seen it, but run over if you have because it's awesome while it tears your heart out.
And last but far, far, far from least is
aurora_novarum's
The Haunted Ship, which she's been working on forever and contains great OC's and beautiful Teal'c and you should all go tell her how awesome she is and that it was worth all the hair she pulled out writing it.
