He could feel the wet ground beneath his naked back as he lay in the early morning dew. Looking up into the predawn of the new morning Damien smiled slightly.
His hands dug deep into the ripe earth, his face warmed slightly, as the sun made its way from behind the horizon, bursting forward lighting up the sky with its promise of a new day.
Turning over until his cheek caressed the ground, he inhaled deeply smelling the damp soil that he knew, one day he would make his home. Now however he did not fret over death and decay. Now he honored the gift that he had been granted, he did not know how long it would last nor did he know the cost.
All he knew was at this moment if the earth were to open up and take him he would not surrender with out a fight.
