So
I get spammed by
sponsorme, and, as I do with all spamming comments, I actually go and look at the account in question before I decide what to do.
Having looked at the account in question, I decide that actually no, much as I understand the desire to get into/through college, creating an LJ account to ONLY request money from people - and then worse, spamming /me/ with said account - isn't what I expect The Powers That Be like LJ accounts to be used for... so off I toddle to file a complaint about said account,
which says: I normally just delete spamming comments (and mark them as spam) but since this one is spamming an LJ account that is only for asking for money off people, I figured I'd aim it your way.
The poster is sponsorme, and the comment they've posted is available (in my LJ anyway) at:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/7rin/467766.html?thread=1459254#t1459254In the first reply I get off LJA, I'm told: LiveJournal has a semi-automated process for dealing with spam such as this. If you believe the comment is unsolicited advertising, you can delete the post and mark it as spam, as described in
http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=201. Once you have done this, it will be taken care of through LiveJournal's spam reporting process.
[1]Having been on LJ for several years, and a member of this community for over a year, I'm actually aware of this... and heck, I thought I'd made it clear that I was aware of this function, since in my initial complaint, I actually say that I use said function... so I don't close the complaint, and instead reply with: As I said in my initial post, I'm NOT trying to report the spamming, I'm reporting the fact that an account has been created solely to extort money from people.
I do this because, as Hubby explained to me, sometimes people don't read what's actually been said (when they've probably got a bazillion other things of a similar ilk to read), and just go by the basic knowledge the many people have, and so I guess they've just missed the point.
And so I get another reply back from LJA... and this one completely confuses me because it tells me that actually yes, what I need to be doing is using the 'report as spam' button, since that'll put it into the spam reporting system... and that that's "the quickest and easiest way for LiveJournal to determine that the account was created solely for commercial use".
Now colour me stoopid, but surely me hitting the 'mark as spam button' over a day after I've informed LJA that said account exists (the report's time-stamped as: Sun, 10 Apr 2005 23:33:49 GMT) actually ISN'T gonna be "the quickest and easiest way for LiveJournal to determine that the account was created solely for commercial use"? Surely, since I'd already taken the time, energy and effort to get my butt over to LJA and report this account, they've already been notified of its existence, and so me just doing the 'mark as spam' NOW would actually take longer, since not only do I have to go and do that, but I also then have to wait for the ticky-boxed report to filter through the system.
So, am I going mad, or does the 'report as spam' button get things through the system so fast that it goes back in time?
[1] I'm only quoting this reply as I believe it to be a 'standard' reply that pretty much everyone'll get... so please don't get arsy over me quoting it.
