All In a Good Day?
It's been a while since I've last posted. I hate trying to fit the contents of a week into a few paragraphs, it never ends up coming out the way I want it to. If you really care, you can ask instead.
On Today:
Today, for the first day in a long while, was an exceptional day all-round. It basicly started with me being exhausted and ill-feeling on monday. So i guess, in retrospect, any day would be OUTSTANDING in comparison - fuck that. I ended up going to bed on Monday at 9:15 PM, and slept like a god-damn baby. I got up at 5:45 and got into work within an hour. I helped a co-worker get the morning meeting set up, and then attended it.
Before the meeting started, the CEO of the company complimented my shirt/tie combo, then announced to the room that I won the award for the best dressed employee. Everyone then commented on how I first joined the firm with an eyebrow ring. It was pretty funny and a great start to the morning for me. All smiles here.
After the meeting, I meander back to my desk and start getting ready for the day. One of my two bosses is out of the office for the rest of the week, and my other boss is in meetings virtually all day, so I was responsible for the Gold department for most of the day.
News breaks that a company, of which we cover, released some drill results. The CEO, ("David Roland") asked ME to look over them and ME to send the sales and trading desk an e-mail regarding MY THOUGHTS on the results. This FUCKING blew my mind. I mean, I know that I have the skills to interpret the results and provide sufficient feedback, but I've never been called upon to do these things before. It felt great. All of my hard work and effort has been paying off! David continued to thank me later.
A little bit later, an exploration company that I've been following for the last little while, was haulted (a stock gets haulted when significant news is pending). Aurelian Resources (ARU.V) is an amazing little story. I've been telling my bosses about it since the $2.75 level. It's now trading at $18.47.
Aurelian was haluted last friday and moved up 75% on the day, after releasing some amazing drill results. The sales guys that I told to get their clients into it before the results came out didn't really believe me, but they were hounding me once the news broke. Fuck that felt good. I admit that I could have done a better job explaining the story to them before hand, but what's really important now is that they value my opinion becuase it is proven. Last quarter - that's over the ENTIRE QUARTER - the top stock pick by an analyst at our firm recorded an increase of 75%.
Today Aurelian closed up another 30% higher than the previous close. Again, all smiles here. I continued to bring it to my bosses attention, when he eventually got back into the office after a day of meetings, and he said that he want's to hear my pitch. I hope that I'll be able to sit him down tomorrow and give him my thoughts. I might actually be able to leave a discovery behind at Paradigm!
Over the course of the day, I basicly started writing a two page report on the economics of commodities and mining equities. A co-worked wanted a synopsis of the mining sector for a report that he's doing.
Overall, at work over the past month or so, I've really been trying to produce a consistent and correct product. After really focusing, I feel that I have really improved overall. To a point where I notice it, and others notice it. Realisticly, this whole experience (taking school off to work) has been great for me thus far, and I continue to expect that it can only get better.
