**** WARNING, LIBERAL VIEWS ABOUT THE ELECTION AHEAD ****
so there's your warning, if you don't want to hear it, don't read past this point.
______________________________________________________________________
SO! this post is all about the election. for starters, i'm disappointed, angry, sad, confused, etc., etc. i hope it's now obvious to the democratic party that they need to get their heads screwed on straight and try to get a GOOD candidate that everyone will like. the dems helped themselves lose this election, just like in 2000. if we can't defeat dubya, then there's a problem - can't you see the smoke signals?
what's up with kerry/edwards saying that EVERY vote will be counted and then conceding? you know, at first i thought eh that's kinda classy, don't drag this out for weeks. NO. every vote should've been counted. all of the uncounted provisional ballots in ohio - yeah, there's over 250,000 votes that were not counted in ohio. i also read that generally, those provisionally ballots are given to members of minority groups, many of which would've voted for kerry. that's a fact. 9/10 black americans voted for kerry. so you give kerry 9/10 of those 250,000 ballots and you have a new president. there are other factors too, like the other 4-6 million ballots that weren't counted throughout the united states. i just don't understand. these factors will now lead to even less people voting in the next election because they are so fed up with the system. i'm very close to that point myself. obviously, the electoral college should be reformed. that goes without saying. it doesn't even have to be abolished! just do like colorado tried to do, apportion votes in each state. so for example if kerry and bush tie in ohio they each get 10 votes. IT'S THAT SIMPLE.
moving on to other issues - most reports and exit polls say that people who voted for bush voted for "morals and values." sure, pay no attention to the 100,000 iraqi civilians dead because of our president. and the 1,000+ members of our own armed forces who are now dead. or the BOOMING economy that we have. ok, it's a shallow a recession, i admit that - but recession it is. i don't understand how people can call stopping finding cures to many diseases that affect so many people, not giving gays their basic human rights, and not allowing a woman to choose MORALS AND VALUES. it literally makes me SICK to see how many intolerant people exist in our country. so john kerry is smarter than george bush - that makes him an asshole that we don't want running out country. WHAT LOGIC. did you know that in our last whatever 10 or something elections that all of our presidents have either been from california or from the south? the so called "new america." i don't understand what people see bad about the northeast. sorry if we have a higher avg iq than the rest of the country, but you don't have to be so upset about it.
now, to the issue that almost made me cry. the constitutional ban on gay marriage in 11 states. WHAT IS IT ABOUT GAY PEOPLE THAT MAKES THEM DESERVE LESS THAN THE REST OF US? someone please explain this to me, because i don't understand it. sounds like we're back to the old "separate but equal thing again" except they're not even lawfully treated as equals. absolutely makes me sick. TOLERANCE, it's a great thing. at least 50% of the united states hasn't realized this yet, unfortunately. OPEN YOUR MIND UP. i urge you.
i leave you with some lyrics from "guerilla radio" by rage against the machine. everything about this election still pisses me off to talk about. it turns out i'm more passionate about this than i thought.
transmission third world war third round
a decade of the weapon of sound above ground
no shelter if you're lookin' for shade
i lick shots at the brutal charade
as the polls close like a casket
on truth devoured
a silent play in the shadow of power
a spectacle monopolized
the camera's eyes on choice disguised
was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?
yes a spectacle monopolized
hey hold the reins and stole your eyes
or the fistagons
the bullets and bombs
who stuff the banks
who staff the party ranks
more for gore or the son of a drug lord
none of the above fuck it cut the cord
yes it is more about gore and bush in 2000. but you get the point. i hope.
