Motor City, music in my ears, and sheer devouring delight.

I spent most of last weekend in Detroit with my best friend Aziza [of Dendura]. Friday night we met her friend Abydos at a local landmark German pub called Jacoby's around the corner from St. Andrew's Theater. After some fantastic calamari and a couple La Fin Du Mondes, we went to see the band Within Temptation, from the Netherlands, perform. They weren't quite my cup o' tea, but they put on a pretty good show none-the-less. The Jameson & sodas helped, I'm sure, but I was just happy to be spending time w/ Aziza considering we haven't lived in the same state for over three years. Afterwards we met her actor friend Steve @ Denny's were I temporarily sobered up after soaking up several cups of coffee and having them make me a special veggie omelet that wasn't on the menu. Somehow after fleeting sobriety, more drinking seemed in order, so we picked up the fixin's for screwdrivers and went back to Steve's place [which was where we were staying that night, we didn't have the hotel 'til the next day].

We stayed up late, so not much sleep was to be had which made the next morning's adventure less than thrilling. Needless to say, we were again given incorrect directions [in fact, told to go the completely OPPOSITE way we needed to go] and after being rescued by discomaker's trans-country navigation skillz arrived at our seedy motel in twice the time & over a quarter of a tank of gas later. We spent most of the afternoon watching bad movies on cable and slowly getting ready for Dendura's show @ The Ritz later that night. Abida Blaze, the belly dancer, met us at the hotel and was an absolute darling. Her performance before and during Dendura's set later on was truly phenominal and beautiful. After Steve [not the abovementioned Steve, mind you... this one looks like Grizzly Adams! hahaha...] & Rob showed up we got our collective asses into gear then headed to the venue, where Paul met us shortly thereafter.

Other than Dendura [who's live acoustic version of "I Have a Gun" is breathtaking.. and my favourite song to begin with], the show itself bored me... ...but then, I'm not really into metal unless it's got a lot of industrial or electronic going on. I can't even recall the names of the other bands, that is how little of an impression they left upon me. However, I finally got to meet Dendura's second guitarist, Paul, and their publicist Lee Runchey [who is an absolute doll... well, actually they BOTH are... heh]. I magically absorbed several gin & tonics w/ lime and Paul & I did some weird green shots called "Scooby Doo" from one of those cocktail waitress booze-peddlers. They tasted like candy. Back in the hotel there was more beer [well, Paul and I drank more... apparently we were the only rockstars who could hold their hooch], the traditional White Castle, and typical inside jokes & hotel room shenanigans. Everyone got little to no sleep, but I don't think I could complain if I tried. Oh, and I'm apparently a rather notorious blanket thief! haha! ^_^*

Driving home was brutal, but we all managed to survive the arduous three hour trek.

I felt like my head was screwed on backwards until sometime yesterday. If that isn't a classic case of discombobulation, I don't know what is!

Since last night I've been insanely busy with freelance writing, tele-conferences, email tag, and updating/managing a fuckton of band stuff. I have been multi-tasking like a whirling dervish and I'm happier than I've been in MONTHS. The secret to Miss Garnet's happiness? Keeping busy @ no less than 200mph, 24/7... or at least 24/6, lol. Oh, and cupcakes... and whiskey... and cute boys help, too. ^_~
