8:10 pm! albedo i am home and my shirt just opened? redeify October 20 2011, 21:06:24 UTC
[ there he was.

it might've been exaggerating to say that dai had been specifically waiting for albedo. after all, as the most welcoming, kindly, encouraging and genteel of all the magisters, any company at all was of utmost pleasure to him. or something like that. he might've forgotten a few of the other glorifying adjectives he embodied.

however, upon spotting him lingering there, a white lily lounging at corner discreetly with his familiar at his side, dai's gaze did become something minutely brighter and more focused. from there, it didn't take him long to curtly dismiss the servant he'd been engaged with, and cross the room towards him.

he didn't speak to him right away, but leaned up against the wall that intersected albedo's, watching the cosy little party with glass in hand. ah... really, this was going to be easier than he anticipated, if it was like this. he had more servants than the other magisters had allies. ]

I don't suppose you drink, do you? [ and he struck it up offhandedly, just like that. as he spoke, he studied his glass, still not looking to albedo directly. ] ... I've never asked about the customs and culture of your own world. How thoughtless of me.

Well. Children of your age ought not to drink in the capital, but seeing as it's my land we're on - and that the civilisation that created that rule is long dead - I wonder if upholding such a thing is really necessary?

[ The one who approached cut an impression through the crowd, Albedo giving his attention instantly, albeit quietly. He said nothing while Dai stopped and spoke--and it was to be small talk, then? Or genuine curiosity on a different place? Well, at the least Albedo could oblige with an answer that was not simply a yes or no.

He sought to entertain, after all.~ ]

Seeing as in that world, I'm viewed as a weapon and not as a child at all... I don't think those apply to me much.

[ Only here he smiled lightly, briefly amused. ] I don't think it'd have much of an affect on me, regardless.

[ His regeneration would burn it from him the instant it touched his system, in theory. It expelled all poisons in much the same manner. He'll do well to test, at some point. To see if the pattern held. ]

[ an answer he somewhat expected. of course; something simply created for the purpose wouldn't be weak to any such poison. dai grinned, tapping his fingertips against the glass, taking a light sip from it while he watched him. indeed, it was easy to forget that he was dealing with a weapon, when he still managed to smile like a child.

... but those words had no innocence or naivety to them at all. nothing else about him was half so convincing. ]

Tell me. [ licking his damp lips, he at once both gestured with the glass and outright offered it. ] Were you made in the guise of a child intentionally, in order to prey on those who are unassuming? Are you stuck as you are... or will you eventually become an adult, and live your life as normal?

[ He wouldn't be any type of good guest if he didn't acquiesce--both in word and deed. Albedo took the glass from Dai's hand more delicately than one might expect and raised it to his mouth. The first impression was--something bitter and sweet at once. He found himself hating it instantly, reminding him too much of something else (one who smelled as sweet as rot and decay), and yet he drank again without reaction before offering it back. ]

I believe... We were made because they thought the younger the mind, the more susceptible to control. A faulty assumption. As for the rest.... [ He tilted his head, then smiled casually. ] I can't say for certain. Regeneration, itself, gives to different aspects in stories. Some stay as children forever while some age. I've grown to this age, though. There's no facts against me growing further.

[ he watched him drink for a while in silence, and slid his hands around the glass when it was returned, slipping over albedo's white fingers to lift it away. ]

... Shame, really. [ and then, as though catching his own odd, wistful tone, he added: ] Not that your growth is any particular disappointment, you understand! But there's something to be said for such youth. Perhaps it's that's just an old man's sentimentality that compels me to say so.

But even besides. I'm sure the incongruity of your appearance with your far-advanced thinking must provide some advantage. In catching those less wise off their guard. [ like those who planned to control him, for example. did they have any clue what they wrought? ]

[ For a moment, Albedo just watched Dai. Then the boy laughed quietly, nothing like the maddening laughter that had been heard before. He blinked upward, near innocently, then turned the look into something more coy.]

I do have to wonder, you know.... If you mean anything you say, or if you're just trying to seduce me with words. I'm not really the fawning over flattery type.

[ Still. It was a fun game to play, regardless of the motives. Now, however... He wouldn't be against touching on more facts than riddles. ]

[ he made an amused sound, adding: ] Can't it be both?

... But I must, at the least, be sincere. I do wish I had the excuses of a child - but knowing me, I would waste them as you do. I was never terribly pious, for all the endured preaching.

Someone of my age can only try to achieve their goals by any means.

[ he trailed off. looking at the fanciful design of his glass. my, was he getting heavy? perhaps he ought to've laid off the wine. ]

Tell me. Who was it who sought to control you? To what end?

[ The apparent frankness made Albedo raise an eyebrow in some interest. ] It could be both. Though, honestly. I don't need to be won over, at this point.

[ And yet, his expression said that he didn't mind Dai's charm. Not at all, really.~ ]

The people that made me, of course. Though I'll tell you this. I was the accident--the creation unintended, worthless and weak. [ A smile, clear and amused. Fingers reached up to frame one of his eyes. ] They were human, though; small-minded and lacking in scope. But that's far behind. I've evolved since then, and that's a life that ended as it did.

[ In blood and fire, in betrayal and loss, in abandonment and ascension. ]

[ dai looked at him carefully for a while, and then he moved up his free hand to casually brush the back of his knuckles over the white fingers on albedo's face. just once, up, and then back over again, the pads of his fingers this time - and then he just closed his hand over them, drawing them down from his face, holding them with an almost paternal affection. ]

... My, my. Haven't you been through a lot. [ perhaps he shouldn't have been so surprised. ] And to have endured so well. But then, as you say... you're an evolved being.

- Though, I assure you, my flattery isn't to win you over, or any such shallow sentiment. You could call it a flaw of my own nature to want to charm.

[ he stroked his thumb over the back of albedo's hand, and then let it go. ]

Did you kill them? The ones who made you, that is.

the end?~ purpletaint December 1 2011, 22:59:16 UTC
[ The reach was still yet unexpected, and Albedo's eyes widened but slightly, lids reaching to show white. As his hand was drawn aside, the boy relaxed again, watching the other openly, allowing any movement to be made. He was only curious in the end, only tempted by a likeness of mind in a place unexpected.

Though at the words, Albedo laughed. ]

Those people... They were nothing to me. Humans, backwards and faulty. No. [ They were nothing. Nothing compared to... his own blood. ] As for their demise... That's attributed to one of my siblings.

[ An Executioner made, born and bred. Such a good child, daddy's little darling was. ]

If you charm by nature, then I can't possibly complain, now can I?~ I'll just enjoy you, then. [ Said with a smile, sharp and edged. ]

[ he gave that reaction a good, long look. well, now... was albedo not used to affectionate touches? or was dai just being overly forthright, catching him off-guard?

one way or another, he didn't let it trouble him, and he wasn't particularly inclined to step lightly for someone else's sake; he'd always been a little bit selfish, when it came to what he could take freely. albedo's reaction wasn't a negative one, and the boy seemed to rejoice in observing, learning and absorbing things about others. he wouldn't want to hold back needlessly. ]

My. It sounds as though you and your siblings are bound by rather similar circumstances. Are you all close? [ he inclined his head a little bit, but didn't push it further than that. it wasn't the first time albedo's spoken of a sort of 'family'... but he had a feeling that patience and some gentle coaxing would yield even more, on its own. ]

[ Affection had been something begged for, not given willingly, and even then-- They had been raised to be tools, not children, and it was frowned upon. And with someone of Albedo's past temperament, it had been something close to a kind of living death.

So touching, from this source, could be something he would become used to quite greedily given the chance.

As things were, it gave enough distraction for him not too consider the question too much. ] Close as blood.

[ His eyes glanced upward, some kind of teasing settling there. ] If close can be reasoned as dependency and murder.

[ ... well, he should have imagined such a family setup from someone like albedo, he supposed. how could his relationships to his siblings conform to some semblance of normalcy, when his childhood has been so incredibly abnormal?

would a creature bred for violence recognise any other way to express affection?

dai hums softly. as one of the childs steps past, he foists his empty glass on them, and they take it away obediently without a glance. ] ... I don't see why it can't. There are many ways to measure the strength of one's emotion for another.

Close as blood... Did they make you from nothing, that you can be entirely without blood relatives?

[[ooc: ...sorry for the tl;dr. he went a little crazy.... ^^; ]]

[ Dai speaks of the strength of one's emotion. And it's as if something in Albedo breaks; fractures to shift away and apart.

His face freezes in the mask worn, eyes gaining in hue, flashing violet to glow steady for the span of five breaths. It's as if he doesn't realize. It's as if something was hit on much too hard.

For it's the opposite. Really. Dai is far too correct, much too wrong in his assumptions. And here, for the second time in this city, Albedo's careful control breaks in half, vicious laughter spilling forth--the boy cupping his hands to his lips, looking all the world like it was a wonderful, delightful joke, but for the inhuman aspect traced in his eyes.

This is soon made apparent, of the reasons why. ]

Made from nothing? That's likely true-- I was the mistake, after all; I was what shouldn't be. But~

[ And here, his voice turns sing-song, franticness dying away as he watches the man, hands still at his lips. One peels away, palm held up to show the red 667 tattooed into his skin. ] But~ You're wrong~

I have six hundred and sixty eight siblings. If you can call it that. Six hundred sixty five of them are a hivemind and worthless, less than human. The rest are Variants. [ The word is spit out, despite the near-loving expression on his face. ] No, close as blood, because we lost the allowance to call ourselves that. We'll be close again only when we shed each other's blood, give it back to the earth to swallow whole.
