Two things that I pretty much knew would come about as a result of the Japan earthquake last week have, indeed, come to pass.
First, there's a lot of, shall we say, "
concern" about the safety of nuclear power in the wake of the issues at the Fukushima Daiichi plant. To put this in perspective, although ten thousand people are dead, the press is going apeshit about the reactors, which survived both a stronger earthquake than they were designed for and a resulting tsunami. Yes, they are having issues, and they are being shut down. But it's a big testament to their design that a magnitude 8.9 quake didn't just knock the thing over and let all the glowing goo inside out.
Second, at least a few no-brain greenies are trying to
tie the earthquake to global warming or climate change or whatever-the-hell it's called this week. This shows a singular lack of knowledge about anything remotely scientific, to be blunt, and anyone trying to make this tie-in ought to be restricted to blunt scissors and edible paste, because all of the tools of higher learning are obviously wasted on them.
So, to sum up, people are still stupid. At least some things never change.
