That's a bit much...
The L.A. Times is reporting that California is on the verge of abandoning its state rock, serpentine, because of asbestos concerns. In point of fact, asbestos is one of about 20 forms of serpentine, which also includes soapstone. But, hey, Californian legislators never let a fact stand in the way of a good cancer scare, right?
