Saw Australia. What it reminded me the most of was one of those big epic old movies with Clark Gable or Rock Hudson or whomever. The thing is that with this movie I really don't think that any of those leading men could have pulled off what this leading man did. HOLY CRAP BATMAN!!

Yeah. No. Yeah...no. Clark Gable could not have pulled off what Hugh just did for me last night. LOL Oh that sounds kind of awful. But you know what I mean.
Well, okay, yeah, lets talk about the movie itself first. It was such a beautiful film...and the scenery was great too. HAH! Alright, seriously, it was a fantastic. I loved the story. It wasn't one big plotline, it was a big story about these different types of people and the country itself during that time. It really was fantastic and creative.
What was odd about it was that it started out very comedic when Lady Ashley met The Drover (Oh HUGH!) for the first time. It was hilarious in fact.
"Oh look at the kangeroos! Look at them jumping!"
"Um, yeah they're jumping..." *BLAM!* Awesome.
And after the comedy died down and we started getting into the plot the whole epic-ness came out and the film got really huge after about the first half hour or so. But I just LOVED it with the horses and the cattle driving. I think that was the craziest scene when they tried to keep the stampede from going off of the cliff face. It was really fantastically done.
I loved that the Japanese attack was almost an afterthought because we were all so concerned about these characters, the little mixed boy, the Drover, and Lady Ashley that at least I was like "Oh yeah, the Japanese are coming too...". That was such a great sequence as well with all of the mixed children on the island. So great!
Oh, and I must talk about David Wenham. Honey, I love you. lol You played such a twisting black moustache part and you played it well. His role was also what made it feel like an old epic movie because this villain was one of those that just didn't quit until the bitter end. He kept feeding himself with motivation until he was finally killed. Classic bad guy.
I also enjoyed the sort of theme with The Wizard of Oz that was all through this film. I also liked the magic of the Aborigine throughout the story. It made it almost like a fantasy with the music. I also cannot BELIEVE that they were so horrible to the half white/half Aborigine children for such a long time! At the end of the film they said things were that way until 1973. It was great that this film conveyed what happened with them when they were found. I didn't know anything about that before.
The love story was really great too. It wasn't complex or wishy-washy because that was Hugh's caracter. The Drover was a man who knew who he was, what he did, what he wanted, and he went after it, nuff said. Period. End of statement. And when he realized that he did care for Lady Ashley he didn't hold back for one second.
I only wish that Hugh could kiss a woman on screen who has real lips. Nicole Kidman's lips were a little distracting for me because never in her LIFE has she had lips that size. EVER! She's always had a tiny mouth!
But other than that it was incredibly romantic and sexy. I think my favorite part was when she was teaching him to dance. (I guffawed out loud in the theater at that because it should have been the other way around...with maracas, tight pants, heeled boots, and a low cut leopard print silky shirt. But that would have sucked the manliness out of it somehow...LOL)
They messed around with each other a bit because they were drunk, she was against the tree and he leans in towards her. "Come on, I can do it." FFFFwwwwaaaaah!!! CRIKEY!! I just cannot say how MUCH I adore this man!
There were the obvious sexy parts like when he was scrubbing himself down at the camp sight in one of his first scenes with his shirt off, yaddi-yadda. Of course that was sexy but I'm just not that kind of girl I guess. I enjoy it but I'm not satisfied by it. lol
What I was satisfied by was how his grubby clothes sat so well on him, the way he looked while riding the horse and wearing that hat. And when he was all cleaned up and shaven with the looks he gave her - FWWAAAAHHH!! CRIKEY!
All of this with the general badassness, yet tiny bit of sensitivity of the character was sexy to me. I bow down to Hugh and kiss his steel toed boots!
So, good movie and Nicole Kidman was definitely not the attraction this time around. lol It was the lovely scenery...and the landscape was great too. [Craig]You too ladies![/Craig] LOL
I'm SORRY, I just can't help myself! It was all very hunnnnnnnggghhh and fabulous.
Okay, I think I'm done with that for now. It'll take me a couple of weeks to get over it though. lol
Besides going to see the movie, Cecily and I busted out the Christmas decorations only to find out that most of the strings of lights didn't work. We flicked them and tested them - no dice. So we went out and bought more colored lights and put them up around the house before going to see the movie. There's still some things that need to be put up but it'll look cute when we're done.
I also breached the 50,000 word mark yesterday as most of you already know. I'm at 50,270 but it was kind of underwhelming because I still have a bunch of the story to get through. I would say that I'm about half way through. Maybe two thirds if I'm lucky. Either way, I don't feel like I've accomplished much of anything because of what I still have to write. lol But I will keep writing it this month and hopefully be finished with the full first draft before the New Year.
...New Year. GAWL I can't believe it's going to be December tomorrow!
