So I've been ruminating a weed tad on the London bombings. I tried to avoid it during work today, mostly because I recognized all of the names of the locatoins that were hit. I looked on mapquest just now and saw that the bus was bombed less than a mile from my flat when I was there last summer, in a location I walked near frequently. All of the tube stations were within a few miles of the flat and I'd been on all of those trains. It's odd to think, but I have a closer physical connection to today's act in London than I did in 2001 to the WTC attack. I'd been to NYC but never to the World Trade Center or anywhere remotely close before 9/11. It's odd, perhaps I should start focusing more on seeing America. I went to Mount Vernon earlier in the week with my family, something like 45 minutes from our house in Bowie, for the first time. Now that's a classic American historical site. I'm not complaining about my Anglocentrism or lack of travel within the US...just saying.
Irony Overload: As soon as I finished this point, I turned on iTunes and the first song was "Mad World," by Gary Jules, from the Donnie Darko soundtrack. If you've heard the song you'll see the connection.
