This week's challenge was to create a get well card for John Sheppard or write him a letter. Well, I couldn't keep it simple. I had to do a bit of both. We do whump him a lot so we should show the man a little comfort.
John groaned softly as his eyes slowly blinked open. It was going to be another fun day in the infirmary. Rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, he slowly scootched into sitting position, being careful to not jar his sore leg.
On the one side of his bed was his breakfast tray. The thought of cereal, toast, orange juice and some Pegasus Galaxy grapes was completely unappetizing. He was craving a stack of pancakes smothered in maple syrup with a side of bacon and eggs. Closing his eyes, he could picture the steam rising from the stack and practically smell the bacon. One eye peeked open and he sighed in disappointment as the box of Golden Grahams sat staring at him.
He rubbed the back of his neck and glanced at the other side of his bed. A huge grin spread across his face. PRESENTS!!!!!! The tray on the other side of his bed had a pile of things just for him. He reached out and grabbed the first thing that came to hand. It was a DVD set from Rodney. He had been bugging him about lending him the redone Batman series, but the scientist always found an excuse to not give them to him. John chuckled as he read the attached sticky note.
Laying the DVDs next to him on the bed, her reached out and grabbed the next thing. It was a bag of his favorite candy, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Before he even opened the card that was with it, he knew it was from Elizabeth. Ever since he had come up with the winch and jumper idea to rescue Rodney that time and had compared it with Chocolate and Peanut Butter, Elizabeth had always managed to have a stash of the candy ready for him when he needed a treat. He pulled open the bag and dumped somee of the chocolates in his lap, opened a couple and popped them in his mouth. He read Elizabeth’s card as he munched.
He laughed at loud at the mention of paperwork. He knew that Elizabeth realized how much he hated paperwork.
He unwrapped a few more candies and looked over at the tray again. There was a little box with a note on the top. Curious, he picked it up and read the note.
Smiling, he opened the box to see the Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic action figure that he had gotten Torren for his last birthday. Blinking his eyes a little more than usual, he gently removed the toy and set it on the table next to his bed. He stared at the toy for a minute then looked back at the note again. His grin widened as he looked at the drawing of the jumper. That kid was a great kid!
He tucked the note under his pillow and looked back at the tray. There was one final thing laying on it. He lifted the box and looked for a note. When he didn’t see one, he opened the box. In it was a folded piece of paper with a simple note written on it.
John couldn’t help but start shaking his head and laughing out loud. The note wasn’t signed, but he knew who it was from.
Wiping away the tears from his eyes, he spied Carson heading his way, a perplexed look on his face. Well, maybe this day wasn’t going to be so boring after all!
