I have been waiting my whole life to see them. And it was totally worth it!
The show opened with "American Idiot," of course (since it's the American Idiot tour), which rocked my world. The whole concert was such a moving experience, I've loved Billie Joe since I was 12 years old, and always dreamed of the day when I'd see them live in concert. The experience of it was even better than the dream! I had no idea it would be so much fun :) I know that I probably won't go see them again, though, because I have a feeling that Billie Joe puts on the same shtick at every concert (leading the audience in coordinated "hey!" and the wave, spraying water on the people in the pit, simulating an orgasm on stage, bringing audience members up to "be the band" and then giving his guitar to one of them) and it just wouldn't be new to me anymore. But it was incredible last night! At the end of the concert, the closing song was, of course, "Time of Your Life," and I have to admit that it made me cry a little bit. I'm not even sure why I was crying, exactly. I wasn't sad - it was actually this really happy moment that overloaded me with emotion, I guess. Looking around, I saw that other people were similarly affected by the song, and didn't feel so out of place anymore. Thank you SO much, David, for buying tickets and for going with me to the show - it was SO special and I can't imagine having shared it with anyone else :)
In other news: today I was totally overwhelmed by wedding planning (for the first time since starting to plan the wedding back in October)! It was a total surprise to me that certain floral arrangements had not yet been... um... arranged yet! Figuring that out was a logistical dilemma until I suggested that the florist contact the wedding coordinator at our reception site, therefore cutting me out of the planning altogether - success!
Just over a week, and we'll be Mr & Mrs Westermann! I can't wait!!!
