Greetings, Gentle Readers (all n-1 of you)!
Late last month, to much ballyhoo, I announced that I had finished the manuscript for The Novel. That manuscript has been in the hands of a publisher for about a month now.
The publisher asked that I send the manuscript directly, and by doing so this means that I have vaulted over the dreaded Slush Pile, that hellish place where unsolicited manuscripts go to die.
I was attending a science fiction convention last weekend and encountered a senior editor who works for said publisher, and I told the editor that the publisher has my manuscript. He countered with "No, I have it. It's in works now, so don't ask."
After removing my jaw from the floor, I inferred from that statement that I had cleared one hurdle: the publisher had not thrown it back at me, but had passed it down the chain. Now it's somebody else's turn.
That's all I know at the moment, so now it's a waiting game, and to pass the time I'm hard at work on Book Two.
