As I finish filling out another questionnaire for QSU because some student at HSU wanted to do their community involvement type paper on the gays, I couldn't help but be amused with some of my answers, and how I had to subtly avoid flagged words like "heterosexism" and talk all careful like. This is my personal favorite:
Why do you think it is that the vast majority of Americans say gays should have equal rights in terms of job opportunities, however, many of those same Americans don't want gays teaching in elementary schools?
Oh, you have done your research. I think when people here "equal job opportunity" they like the sound of it, but when they hear "people with a different sexual orientation than you around children" they freak the hell out. Anytime you mention sex and children in the same sentence people will freak out. Hell, I freak out a little, like saying, "This man like to give his wife oral sex, do you think he should teach first graders?" What? NO! I mean... why would anyone phrase a question that way?!
Of course, I had just gone off in the question before about how homosexuality is not just based on behavior, then I guess I reverted to mainstream ideas of orientation.
