Happy Veteran's Day

Nov 11, 2006 22:39

Today is Veteran's Day. This is the first Veteran's Day Humboldt State has taken off, which means I had to observe it. I took a whole moment of silence to reflect and whatever. More importantly, in classic abexian tradition of Veteran's Day we will now review the To Do List

1. Buy Fertilizer for Bonsai
Bob the Bonsai is dead. Florence has fully recovered under the care of Mother. Davi was last seen at Julio's house, I can only imagine he is still there. Dominique is out on my back porch, hating me. I have decided plants all hate me. My main arguing point is the one time Dominique ever sprouted and bloomed was the six weeks I completely abandoned her alone in my old apartment. Now that she has moved out she is also sprouting new growth. Screw plants.

2. Buy Cheez-Its
Interestingly, I used to just not buy Cheez-Its because of the ingredients. I have expanded my dietary restrictions so that I would additionally not buy Cheez-Its because they do not come in a recyclable container. Zero-waste living might now be realistic, but it remains a goal.

3. Buy Headphones
Bought some, stepped on them, don't plan to buy more. I have some speakers Mother gave me. I wouldn't call them good but they make sound.

4. Obtain Nifty Lightswitch Cover
Not only is every lightswitch and outlet cover in my bedroom nifty, the three outlet covers in the front room are now too. But I still want more. MORE.

5. Create Walking Stick
This past summer I found a fifth walking stick, which I named Tarra. I was taking an early morning (just after dawn) stroll through Redwood Park, wandered out of the park and onto the logging property I think, found a field of demolished trees and there sitting as if waiting for me was an absolutely amazing walking stick. I took it home. It's made of redwood.

6. Obtain Compass
That would be cool. Don't really care about it now.

7. Get Boyfriend
This is something which... well, ask me again in a week or two.

8. Obtain Rock with Words
I still really want a giant rock with a nice single word carved into it. That would be great. I keep asking, but no one gives me one for presents, well, except the small ones dear Aunt Pam gave me for Christmas in ages past. I want a large one, though.

9. Get Driver's License
I have it, renewed it, and everything. It even has two points on it. Woodrow, my dear Prius, is doing well. He is not being driven during the week but excessively on the weekends.

10. Clean bedroom apartment bedroom apartment.
The apartment, with the exception of my bedroom, is mostly clean. In the first weeks of living on my own I cleaned the entire place thoroughly, but never made it to my bedroom. Still haven't. Really ought to. I end up cleaning the apartment most of the weekend from everything that goes on during the week.

11. Visit Friend's Monastery
Not going to happen anytime soon.

12. Obtain Laptop
Walter is slowly going crazy. His monitor no longer works, nor does the keyboard, or the mousepad. He is essentially functioning as a tower with all the other things plugged into him. Amy, on the other hand, is doing wonderfully, running Ubuntu amazingly, and whatnot.

13. Buy Digital Camera
Have one. Family and friends use it more often than I do. Why did I ever want one?

14. Visit [St. Bernard]'s Basement
I have barely been to St. Bernard this semester. Whatever. I am not getting into their basement anytime soon.

15. Buy Subwoofer
No.

16. Write Novel
I had an idea early in the semester to end each day with writing a short story. I think that would be cool. Too bad I'm so... distracted.

17. Go on Road Trip
Still haven't gone across country without family. The furthest south I've gone without family is to Santa Barbara, and by myself is Santa Cruz. I don't really go north. Next semester, though, I may be traveling much more.

18. Start Monastery
I do not really want to do this anymore. I think I would much rather spend the duration of my life running a queer friendly coffeehouse in Arcata.

holidays, lists
