[Wednesday, early in the morning] - And all my knots undone

Oct 01, 2008 18:06

She'd woken up that morning as usual, which in this case meant cuddling with Tim, who was very warm and snuggly when he was half asleep due to caffeine deprivation.  It was hard not to stay there all day, especially since she sort of felt like they were on borrowed time. Eventually there would be a large firework-laden argument and every day there wasn't was a day she was happy to enjoy.

After she'd eventually dragged herself out of bed, gotten some coffee, and then gotten dressed, since dressing before coffee never turned out well, she'd gone over in the rain (and wasn't that a weird meteorological change?) to Eostre's hut to see if any help was needed with the girls.  It was bath day and two sets of arms were usually helpful in those cases. The girls seemed to think that the bathwater belonged on whoever was bathing them as well.  It was sort of an equal opportunity drenching.

She'd met Mike there, though, and discovered that while help was indeed needed, help was going to be needed for a long time rather than just today.  Apparently Eostre had disappeared during the night, leaving the girls for Mike, herself, and all the uncles to care for them, and while she'd managed to hold it together until the end of their conversation, as soon as she'd left she'd gone back to the hut and curled up into a tiny wet little ball in the rocking chair on her porch, staring out unseeing onto the path and wishing she hadn't given Bert to Del.
