So, today I went to the eye doctor for my yearly check-up. My eyes have felt pretty good lately, just some straining when working night shift or when I really tired. No big deal, right? Well, I thought not until I couldn't do half the depth perception test, though I was wearing my glasses that are almost 2 years old and definitely NOT up to par. Then, the doctor told me that I hadn't had an actual exam since 01/07, not 01/08 like I thought. I could seriously SWEAR I bought contacts last January, a year supply of clears and a box each of sapphire, green, and aqua just for fun and because I had to use up the money in my health savings account before it expired. Apparently, I either never had an exam and only bought contacts, or everything was actually done in 01/07 and I just had a TON of contacts to use up. I felt like such a dork trying to tell the doc that I really HAD seen him last January and he's looking right at the paperwork that is clearly dated 01/07. I'm still trying to figure this one out. Needless to say, my eyes are a little worse than last time, no surprise there. The doc says everything looks fine inside and out and he's not worried about the depth perception test because I was wearing really old glasses when I did it. My field of vision test was perfect and he said that was a more important eye test anyway.
So I bought another year's worth of clears and wanted to buy a set of aqua because they were SO pretty and I thought it would be fun to at least have that option for special events, like the Christmas banquet next weekend. Except now my prescription is TOO HIGH for Cooper Vision Expressions Accent colors. They only go up to -6.00 (which is where my left eye was at 2 years ago) and now it is -6.50. My right eye is "only" -5.75, but I just want to cry. I feel like I'm going freaking BLIND now and now I'm worried that soon my eyes will be too bad for clears and I'll be stuck with coke bottle glasses for the rest of my life. If that happens, I'm getting LASIK surgery. I don't care how much I have to pay or that my dad's had a ton of problems since he had it done. Anything is better than having to wear ugly glasses all the time.
Speaking of glasses, I actually really like the frames that I have, but new lenses for them (with the new stronger prescription) will run me about $200 at America's Contacts. I think I'll take them to Wal-Mart and see if they can beat that!
I've been doing some internet research on colored contacts during this entry and it appears that I'm not out of luck for colored contacts. The cheapest options for my prescription are Johnson & Johnson Acuvue 2 Colours Enhancers (I like the Aqua) and Ciba Vision Freshlook Radiance (I like the Eden). I basically want exactly what I had found in the Cooper Vision Expressions Accents, very subtle color enhancement of my naturally medium gray-blue eyes with yellow-orange ring around the pupil. Does anyone have any experience with either the Acuvue 2 Colour Enhancers or the Ciba Vision Freshlook Radiance? I looked up both on epinions.com and there are positive and negative comments about both. HELP!
