Thanksgiving!

Today I'm doing some cleaning in anticipation of hosting Thanksgiving dinner for Jen and Chris on Thursday and I'm listening to my Carman greatest hits CDs that I haven't listened to in YEARS.  I grew up on his music and there is something rather fabulous about blasting music to which you know EVERY SINGLE lyric and can still remember some of the stupid dances that you made up in your living room when you were 10 years old.  I'm not quite as limber or uninhibited as I used to be, HA!!

I'm also making the rolls for our dinner extravaganza today, my Aunt Valerie's famous recipe, and they are rising as I type this.  In addition to the rolls, here is our dinner menu for Thursday:

Drinks: Iced tea and white sparkling grape juice
Appetizer: Rustic onion tart
Vegetables: Whiskey-glazed carrots, Bacon-wrapped green beans (not entirely sure this is the recipe that Jen found, but it looks good!)
Potato: Mashed potatoes with bacon and garlic and roasted potatoes (for Chris who doesn't like mashed potatoes)
Dressing: Smoky bacon-biscuit dressing
Meat: Buttermilk-brined turkey with giblet gravy
Dessert: Free-form apple tart and Classic pumpkin pie with whipped cream (from scratch, natch!)

Clearly, we love Williams-Sonoma recipes and...bacon??  We did, in fact, buy 3 pounds of bacon, for 3 people.  I'm seriously considering stealing some Plavix and Lipitor from work to keep me alive for the next week.  hee!!

It's going to get pretty crazy over the next few days with work and dinner prepping, so I want to take the time to wish each of you a very happy Thanksgiving!  I am very thankful for the many people and things in my life, including the friends I have found or stayed connected with through Live Journal.  May God bless each of you and may you enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and loved ones!
