I had to call poison-control last night.
At about 8pm, I found a small piece of foam (like from a chair cushion) in Henry's mouth. At first, I thought nothing of it. He gets around pretty well these days- so he could have picked it up somewhere when I had my back turned, for a second.
Well, then he began to vomit after each feeding. Again, when he did it the first time, I shrugged it off. But, by 5am, he was throwing up violently and could not sleep. I thought about it; and, a little what if popped into my head.
A half-hour later, we found ourselves in the ER, at the direction of a gentleman at Poison Control. The folks there did not seem to think that Henry had swallowed anything dangerous. And, they said that, if he had ingested some foam, he would, most likely, pass it without complication.
But, while we were there, he continued to vomit forcefully. The doc checked his ears and they were both badly infected! In addition to antibiotics, he prescribed Henry some Tylenol with Codeine, numbing-drops for his ears, and something to help with the nausea. Aw, my little baby has never had so many medicines.
This is his third ear infection. Previously, they have only had us give him regular Tylenol and the antibiotics. I feel sorta weird giving my 8 month old narcotics...
Anyway, I don't know why he keeps getting these ear infections. But, I guess it was a blessing that Brad had already requested the morning off. We didn't get to go to the MLK march, but at least we got a few hours of sleep. Ah, I am so exhausted! ♥
