Back to school: Memories

I was a little obsessed with organizing my room for some reason... not necessarily having it clean, but organizing the furniture. About once a month or so, I would get out the tape measure and measure the dimensions of my room and then recreate it on grid paper. I'd then measure all of my furniture and cut it out and then i could arrange my furniture and know what would fit where and get it all planned out before I even had to start moving things around. I always seemed to have carious themes. Like, one time I had a sort of island in the middle of he room, another time I put all of my furniture on one side of the room so that there would be a large open area on the floor to play with Legos on. One time I put a bed in the corner and basically walled it in with dressers, books= cases and such.

My friend matt's house has a wood stove that they use for heat in the winter. I was a bit obsessed with it and I'd go over there and volunteer to bring in wood (which was ok by them, because i think they hated doing it) and then i'd always wake up early in the morning and go downstairs and throw a few more logs on the fire and just sit in the easy chair and watch it burn. Except that I think more recently, that easy chair always smelled of freshly cut grass.

Matt's dad would always have some weird electrical project on his desk that he'd be eager to show me.

One time I think I was in first or second grade and i was doing some research project on dinosaurs and I checked out some weir folder of information (it wasn't even in book form) from the school library. I didn't really like the school library because I was always getting really good books from the public library, but you know, they had to give everyone the same assignment and I was probably one of the few people that went to the 'real' library. Anyway, I didn't really want this stupid folder and I didn't use it for the project. Ii think it was about plant life during the dinosaur age or something and ii knew that it wasn't very helpful to me. I ended up being pushed under my bed and I forgot about it. Ii think a month later or so they gave me a note or something saying that I had an overdue book. I didn't even remember having it. A year or two later I was moving my room around and I found it under my bed and felt a bit sheepish, so I just stuck it back in my storage box. I think when I moved from Buchanan in the 9th grade I found it again and threw it away.

I remember that since we moved around a fair amount, we always had extra boxes in the basement. My sister and I would sometimes raid these and connect them all together to make forts and such
