Well I have sort of abandoned my LJ as of late. Earlier this semester I was waiting on news from job interviews before I wrote -- I wanted to tell everyone about my job prospects, but I didn't want to jinx them. Then, once I was offered a few jobs and accepted one, everything piled up with end of college stress. I was packing, finishing papers and projects, preparing to say goodbye to so many people.
So now, for those who do not know, I am in Maryland for a job. I thought this week I would have time to call everyone and give updates on my new home. However, homework never seems to end even outside of college. I have a 300 page book on petroleum refining, and who knows how many pages of internet printouts explaining refineries and giving examples of refinery articles. Plus I have been purchasing the last items for my apartment and trying to find time to relax before I enter the workforce. So my point is I apologize for not calling.
As many of you know, I received a position as assistant editor of refineries and feedstocks with an oil-business publication located on the East Coast. They have a New York office in Jersey and a DC office in Maryland. I chose to work at the Maryland office. I have an apartment in Germantown and moved in last week with my mom's help. It is a really nice location. My apartment complex is situated on a road connecting two major roads right behind the US Department of Energy. It is surrounded by trees so the apartments appear isolated. (The whole area of Maryland and Virginia is trees... there are no billboards on the highways and so many trees that you cannot even see the mall located right next to the highway). My complex has many laundry rooms, a tennis court, business center, fitness center and other amenities. Within walking distance is the bus stop that will take me to the metro (the metro goes by work and straight into downtown DC -- my mom and me took it to see the war memorials last weekend). I also have within walking distance two grocery stores, Bed Bath and Beyond, DSW, Office Depot, Starbucks, Panera, Ruby Tuesday, Red RObin, Taco Bell, Chik-fil-a, Longhorn steakhouse, my bank, a sushi restaurant and many, many other places. It's really nice.
Anyways, still don't have any friends here yet. Though this random guy over 40 came up to me at Starbucks and started a conversation. He then told me when he comes to Starbucks so I can talk with him again. I asked the time and acted like I was late for something and had to leave. At that moment, he also got up saying he had to go. Very odd indeed.
Well there isn't much else to report.
Oh, I just bought my plane tickets for Brian and Sharree's wedding so I will be in town around mid-day Friday June 22 and have to leave for St Louis to catch my flight home Sunday morning.
Hope to see many of you then. Ciao.
