You better Belize it!

It's been a while since I posted to this, so I'll make it as concise as possible. I was in Playa del Carmen for a bit, then went down to Tulum. The ruins there are nothing special, small and overcrowded. But their setting on the ocean makes them worth it. The beach there is really nice though, and thats pretty much the only thing to do during the day, so I'd do that most days. The sand is super fine and its made from coral and shells, rather than rock, so it doesnt absorb heat, so its never hot to walk on.

For christmas we made quesadillas and drank tequila and hit a pinata, that was a good time.

I left on boxing day i think and went to chetumal which is just across the border from Belize and spent the night there. It's a shitty town, but I was only there to sleep, and I stayed in a youth hostel for like $5.

The next day I took a bus straight to belize city. belize city isnt as bad as i had heard. I only saw it during the day, and its pretty ramshackle, but its got a neat caribbean flavor. Belize itself is a pretty neat country. Being a former british colony, the official language is english, though most people speak kriol, which is a blend of like west african and english. kind of like how they talk in jamaica, mon.
I travelled to caye caulker after spending an hour or so in Belize City, which is an island 45 mins off the coast. Its sweet, extremely laid back. all the streets (both of them) are made of sand, and most people wear shoes. which leads to lots of signs like "No shirt. No shoes. No shit. No problem." and similar.
The hostel I stayed at in caye caulker was prety chill and I met lots of people. The lady that ran the hostel, Tina, would be there in the morning and then leave and not usually be around all afternoon. So she;d be like, "yeah, theres one room available, so if anyone wants it tell them they can have it and to pay me in the morning. " It was a pretty funny scene.
also not much to do on caye caulker but go swimming. theres not much of a beach though, its all mangroves so people just lie on the piers and docks and whatnot

For new year's we just drank at the hostel then went to one of the bars for 12, then went swimming on the northern bit of the island called the split. I dont remember much though

I left on the 2nd and went to san ignacio, 8 miles from the guatemala border, where I currently am. I went with a german guy going to school in the US and a guy from england and these three girls from lethbridge that are going to be doing their education internship in Punta Gorda in southern belize.

We went to see some ruins around here the other day, and yesterday I went on a cave tour (spelunking) in these caves that have all sorts of mayan artifacts. It was sweet, it was about an hour and a half to where we parked the cars, then another 45 minutes walk to the cave entrance through the jungle and a few river crossings.
the caves were wicked, i expected a wide open cave and water up to my knees or something, but we had to swim from the entrance about 30 feet into the cave and then crawl through all sort of tight crevices with water rushing past for about an hour, then we took our shoes off and walked around in the dry part for another hour or two where there were insane amounts of mayan pots and carvings from their ceremonies 1500-2000 years prior, all very well preserved due to the constant climate of the cave.

im going to guatemala tomorrow, to flores and to see the ruins at Tikal. Ive heard if you bribe the guard $15 you can sleep at the ruins overnight, so we'll see if that happens
