So, I spent a couple days in mazatlan wandering around, but I left becase it was supposed to rain a lot because of that storm or something. I dunno
I took the bus to sayulita which is only like 280 km, but took way longer than I expected, 6 hours or something.
Sayulita is a pretty sweet town, its like 2000 people, and a tourist town, though not as ridiculous as mazatlan, theres no giant resorts. its pretty laid back here with some nice beaches. Im living in a hammock under a thatched hut 30 feet from the beach, so I cant complain about that. I tried surfing a couple times but I havent actually stood up yet, and I also realized I suck at swimming and am painfully out of shape. and i sunburn a lot more easily than i thought i could.
also, its retardedly hot all the time, im getting used to it, but its still hot
sarah, from dawson, is also currently here. she has an apartment near the plaza in the middle of town. its a pretty nice place, but she said her fridge doesnt work, so thats lame. theres also no windows and a big open living room/kitchen thing.
they dont really use windows in a lot of the places here, well, maybe the fancy ones. its all really open. and a lot of the masonry looks like its either partially being taken apart, or still needs to be finished, you can never quite be sure
im not sure how long im going to stay in sayulita. theres not much to do other than go to the beach or drink, and the town is pretty small so theres not much to explore. my days currently consist of hanging out by the beach, sleeping, swimming and eating. The tacos here are good. Even better than taco time.
I think i´ll stay here at least until I get the hang of surfing, then maybe head to puerto vallarta for a day, if even that long, i dont think i`ll like it there, being a mega-huge resort town
After that Im not sure where im going to go, but this is my rough plan: I might go to guadalajara, and possibly mexico city (not sure about fitting that one in), then down to puerto escondido on the oaxacan coast, to oaxaca (city) if all that protesting is over with, (maybe to veracruz), around the yucatan on the gulf of mexico side, then down past playa del carmen down around kinda the middle of the yucatan through quintana roo, into chiapas, and then across into guatemala
thats all pretty relative and vague, and i dont think some of it is even possible due to lack of roads, i havent looked into it yet, but ill figure it out before I try doing it. its all subject to change
mexico is sweet. everything is cheaper relative to canada, even stuff I thought would work out to roughly the same price is cheap, a coca-cola classic and a bag of doritos costs about US$1 as an example.
Also, mexican people are super friendly. I havent had to use much of my bad spanish as theres a whole lot of english speakers in this town. I also like that sign-painting is still a major industry in mexico, as few business have professionally computer printed signs, they´re mostly all painted by hand, but with similar logos as you would see anywhere (fuji, cocacola, etc)
And when the propane truck(s) drive around town they play music like an icecream truck would to let you know they´re driving by, but with the name of the company inserted every few seconds in between the music.
still havent put any photos up though
mexico is sweet.
