well, today was eventful. i went to the dmv and took the touchscreen test to validate my permit. they ask some lame questions. i missed the one about window tint, and another about how long you lose your license if you refuse to take a breathalyzer test. oh well. i only needed 75% correct anyway.
i got my permit card and my tags yesterday, so that's taken care of. after taking the test, i did some practice at the fairgrounds, getting used to taking off and reversing with the clutch. it's kind of embarassing, considering i've not legally been behind the wheel in about 5 years. i mean, put me behind the wheel of an automatic and i can handle anything you throw at me. but i've never had to use a clutch, so the shifting is something to get used to. in taking off, you has to hold the clutch, start it, put it in gear, give it gas and feather the clutch slowly until the car picks up and goes. if one doesn't give enough gas, the car stalls; if one gives too much, you're spinning the tires. it's just one of those things that comes from more time in the saddle, you know. i drove down linden, then north river road, through the friendly hills area and backroads to dresden. then through dresden, through trinway and almost towards coshocton until my ride broke down. my dad got out and made a few adjustments (there's a screw that needed to be extracted by 1.5 turns on the carburetor) and we were off again.
the best part, was going through this wide open wildlife preserve in coshocton. it was formerly mining land, but after they got what they could, the mining company turned it into a wildlife preserve. probably just to get tax cuts or kickbacks for "doing their part," but it gave me a really intricate system of backroads with very few cars to deal with. we hopped on 60 and i drove back to sarah's house. dad took my bronco home to make some more adjustments so tomorrow i can do the whole thing again. after a few more days, i should have taken care of the manual transmission situation.
i fried another awesome hamburger about a half hour ago. i really wish i had another.
eh, seinfeld's on. i'm outta here.
