Maybe if he hadn't gotten trapped, he could have stopped that first meteor from hitting the earth and giving power to a power hungry race of man. Wouldn’t have lost all the people he’d loved.
But then again... he wouldn't have met Katara and Sokka, the two people who really taught him about the world. Katara who is the last waterbender of her tribe and Sakka, who didn't want to believe in any of it, however had the heart of a warrior and would do anything to protect his sister.
