Eep, time to play catch up!

Day 14 - What is the hardest thing about living in Japan versus your home country? The utter lack of good television really hurts, actually. I didn't think I would miss it but I really, really do miss watching TV. I have a theory that because the men are primarily the breadwinners in Japan, and because they often stay ( Read more... )

I'm with you on the TV (and most of the stuff you said). I tried watching some TV when I first got there (on the loaner TV the dorm gave me) but after I got my own TV I stopped watching any Japanese TV (besides what I saw when I was at a cafe or something) and only used my TV for games and the occasional dvd. Heck, when they hooked up my HDTV in my room I didn't even have them plug it into the antenna. I just had no desire to see anymore Japanese TV. When I watched some of it when I first got there, I ran into some variety show with sudo-celebrities and contestants trying to make them laugh. If they didn't "appease" them, then someone hit a button and the person dropped through the floor. Made me think of the Gong Show.

I never really missed coffee in Japan, because Japanese cafes usually had fantastic coffee. The stuff here in the States sucks unless you make your own. In Japan, I could go out and expect to have a decent --> great cup of coffee. Here, I'm lucky if my cup is drinkable. I did enjoy whenever you brought in Tim Horton's though, so if that's what you were used to drinking at home, then I understand missing it. The coffee beans you can get in Japan were also awesome (expensive, but awesome).

Oof on natto! No desire to ever put that stuff in my mouth ever again.

Btw, you messed up on your top 5 karaoke songs. It should have been Last Christmas just written 5 times.

coffee in Japan is good but Tim Horton's is a lot better IMO. Or maybe I'm just used to the taste of it.
