Cleaning House: Old Photos

Jul 25, 2011 13:08

So much for having the estate sale in July -- Mother's house is still a pit, in part because I can only get out there so often. Not August seems slightly more reasonable, but even then it might not be feasible. We keep finding some fascinating and bizarre things -- for some reason we have books in Japanese from the 1920s in my mother's house (why? No idea). In addition to a Swedish history book from 1890 that my father's family would bring to the States later with them when they emigrated, there were five history books in the 1880s in the house as well, all in amazingly good condition considering their age!! And then there was the bucket full of throwing stars which -- yeah, defies explanation.

And then there were the photos ... Except for those in the last picture, I don't know who they are. I'll assume they're family -- why would we have them otherwise? -- but there's no indication as to who these people are. I really would love to know what connection they are to me!! Any ideas how I would even begin to research this?

This was a tintype -- though the edges are worn, it's in amazing condition! Thommy insisted that this man looks "just like" me. -_-

Finally, one that WAS labeled -- my great great grandfather and his wife. When I saw this the first thing I thought was: Wow, I love his outfit; I want it. :: laugh :: The irony: his name was Adolph. Yeah, that was unfortunate, but the OTHER Adolf wouldn't ruin that name for quite some time yet ... ^^;;;;
