So a couple of weeks ago, Carl out of the blue came up to me and said, "I was looking at your bookshelf."
"... okay??" This in itself was surprising to me, as Carl never looks at my shelf unless he thinks I swiped one of his books. My bookshelf is overflowing with language texts, so I had no idea what he could have wanted there.
"You have no books in Icelandic, I see."
"... erm ... why???"
"Maybe I want to learn Icelandic."
"... o_O Who ARE you? And what have you done with my real husband??"
So I've tried to reason with him; that Icelandic can be fairly difficult, especially with its intact inflectional system. "Maybe you should pick up Danish or something? As a starter?"
"But then I can't read the SAGAS!"
"... o_o"
So now I am looking for sources for Carl so he can learn Icelandic. If he can -- great. He seems to think it'll be similar to German and ... well, I still say it'll be harder than this.
