roxbear got a two-for-one deal going and asks:
How did you start drawing bears, do you make it by nature or only form imagination? And self-centred question too, do you make avatar drawings to other people?
At first it was people I had seen, from memory, and the drawings were just terrible. I had no concept of basic human proportion or anything for years, and my earlier drawings show this. I started seeing the work of Dade/Ursus and several other illustrators, and I longed for my work to be as beautiful, as powerful, as erotic, and I hope that, at some point, my art can get to that point. I still see many flaws in what I draw, and I keep pushing myself to reach the level of the next artist that catches my eye in terms of quality and skill, but this also means I'm pretty damned cruel to my own stuff.
I draw from photographs and also from imagination -- it's pretty easy to see which is which, as my imagination-based works tend to have more of a "manga" flavour, and the reality-based drawings are closer to regular portraiture, though I'm looking at meeting somewhere in the middle at some point.
And yes, I've been known to draw an avatar or two!
