Bits and pieces

Minor issues over the last day or so.

Over the weekend, Susan and I visited a local museum, the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. It was mostly devoted to the history of Wickenburg itself, and it was relatively small and so we took our time checking out the different exhibits. At the end we picked up some minor memorabilia in the gift shop, including a rather picturesque bandana. (That last was my own selection, though Susan approved as soon as I showed it to her.)

I’d been checking the weather reports every day, because of the vent cover that was torn off the top of our rig by ridiculously strong winds on our way across New Mexico. I’d covered the vent opening inside to keep out cool air, but was aware of potential problems if we had to deal with any rain. As it happened, there was NO rain while we were in New Mexico, Arizona, or Nevada. The forecast showed the likelihood of some precipitation today, though, so yesterday I climbed up on top of our rig and used plastic bags and tape to cover the top of the missing vent as well.

In the meantime, Susan had discovered that we had TWO bandanas in the bag from the museum, even though a check of the purchase ticket showed we had indeed paid for only one.

(Yes, this goes back and forth a bit, because of the order in which these things occurred.)

Today we had rain in the early morning, but it had subsided by the time of a hair appointment Susan had made in downtown Wickenburg. The salon turned out to be on the same block as the museum, so while Susan was in the salon, I walked down and returned the second bandana to the museum …

… and the woman I turned it over to, followed me outside and told me I had returned two, and gave one of them back to me. When I rejoined Susan at the salon, she said she’d really thought she had pulled out one and put it aside, having me take the extra out to the car for the next time we went downtown. Leaving us to wonder if we’d actually paid for one but taken home three.

Nope; when we got back to the RV and checked where she’d put the stuff from the museum, there was no bandana. Which was good, because if I’d had to return another one, I really would have wanted to check to make sure it was only one, just in case we’d actually got away initially with four. Fortunately, not.

During the early part of the evening, the rain came back. No big deal, it wasn’t serious heavy rain. Only, I found that the outside cover hadn’t really been quite sufficient; enough rain got through that the cover I’d taped to the inside of the vent came loose and we had some water - only a small bit, but it happened - leak into the bathroom. Now the rain has stopped, and we should be good until we can stay in one place long enough to get that repaired.

Meanwhile, however, the electrical outlet on the driver’s side of the RV stopped working without warning. So now we’ll need to get THAT repaired as well.

Yes, these are the pulse-pounding events that fall on us as part of the RV life.

Here we are, then. The plan is still to get the driver-side cab window repaired Wednesday, proceed on to Tombstone on Thursday, and settle there for a bit to get the other things done. At least a month, is the current plan, perhaps longer.

So, let’s see how that goes.
