picture three since-elementary-school friends sitting around a table of delicious pasta dishes in the corner of a cozy restaurant in greenwich village, quietly chatting about all they'd missed over the last month. now picture one of them bursting into a bout of genuine laughter and throwing her head back, only to have it collide with the stomach of the cheese-carrying waiter walking behind her chair.
lia and hope came to visit this weekend and it was wonderful. (lia's head was the one mentioned above.) we met friday night at lia's grandparents' house in queens and had a delicious dinner. then i had to come back to campus, but we met up again on saturday morning and spent the day walking around with heavy backpacks and taking pictures of ourselves having different emotions on new york's rainy streets. we sampled the city's best cupcakes at magnolia's and saw a very funny improv show while we were seated next to a less funny audience member. then we all slept back at lia's grandparents' house. this morning i took a hot shower without flip flops and without mold. it was fantastic.
i am having a hard time grasping that my kids move out in five days, and that i'll be home on saturday. also that i'll be back at school in thirty days. didn't we just move out of hanselman? kasandra's alarm was going off and everything! pretty soon i'll be fifty-three and i'll wonder where my life has gone. i hope i'll wonder that with a smile, and that i'll know the answer.
