Toji heard the news of course, Misato was yelling about it all over NERV HQ and he had a physical to go to. So when he sees Shinji on base, he wheels up to him with a smile on his face.
Shinji grins in return, "And leave you all by yourself here, with all the cute girls? I can't let you have all the fun."
He gestures to him and starts walking along the hallway. "Mind if we get something to eat? I'm starving, and Misato's beer is not my idea of a healthy breakfast. It'll give us a chance to catch up while we're at it."
Toji turns his chair towards the mess hall and starts to wheel. "Sure." His voice drops a bit, but he is still smiling. "Man I was beginning to worry you weren't coming back."
"Oh? Why's that?" Though his experiences had left him a bit tired, he still had enough stamina to tease Toji. "From what I can tell, you've been making plenty of friends around here. The GDF's always had the way of bringing people together, cheesy as it sounds."
After his discussion with Cagalli's notably less equitable half in the dream world, Shinji is a little hesitant at her approach. He shakes it off, though, and smiles at her, "Don't I look okay? Sleep deprived, yeah, but I'm just Shinji. Same as I've always been. How about you?"
She composes herself a little, trying to not come off as too enthusiastic (as silly as that may seem). "Eh... same old same old... politics and all that..."
"So what happened anyways?" Cagalli pauses a moment. "Oh! But if it's something you don't want to talk about that's alright of course..."
Shinji just laughs. "Same old Cagalli, too. We're friends, aren't we? Besides, I bet you're dying to know. Okay, so let's see, it was kind of like..."
Shinji taps a finger to his chin, trying to pull the right words together. "Dreaming, but not really. Because I was awake for some of it, and asleep for the rest. There were voices and... nono not those kinds of voices, and memories and faces, ones that I knew. Ones like yours. You didn't seem very happy with me, though. It's all a little hazy still, so I don't remember exactly what you said."

Thanks, Teppei. By the way, you probably won't believe me when I say this, but...
X visited me. In my dreams.
