After his discussion with Cagalli's notably less equitable half in the dream world, Shinji is a little hesitant at her approach. He shakes it off, though, and smiles at her, "Don't I look okay? Sleep deprived, yeah, but I'm just Shinji. Same as I've always been. How about you?"
She composes herself a little, trying to not come off as too enthusiastic (as silly as that may seem). "Eh... same old same old... politics and all that..."
"So what happened anyways?" Cagalli pauses a moment. "Oh! But if it's something you don't want to talk about that's alright of course..."
Shinji just laughs. "Same old Cagalli, too. We're friends, aren't we? Besides, I bet you're dying to know. Okay, so let's see, it was kind of like..."
Shinji taps a finger to his chin, trying to pull the right words together. "Dreaming, but not really. Because I was awake for some of it, and asleep for the rest. There were voices and... nono not those kinds of voices, and memories and faces, ones that I knew. Ones like yours. You didn't seem very happy with me, though. It's all a little hazy still, so I don't remember exactly what you said."
"Eh... well I can't say I'm always gonna be happy with my friends... wonder what dream-me would've said..." Probably things a Cagalli in a bad mood would say.
"Still, you're here now and not dreaming, so thing's are gonna be fine."
"Probably called me a pussy, a jerk, or some combination of the above?" Shinji indulges in a good-natured laugh, though his smile soon fades. "Eh, if only it were as easy as waving a magic wand. But I'm feeling alright for the moment, so I just hope that feeling lasts. You never know around the Evas."
Shinji shakes his head, "They're not human. That right there makes them more dangerous than anything else we're using. And because they're not human, they have a will of their own. If you think about it, they have every right to be angry, since NERV's basically made them slaves. I don't blame the Evas, really."
"Making something with a will of its own just to be a weapon..." She looks down, thinking more and more about how much NERV sucks. "We shouldn't have to do something like that just to protect ourselves.
"Hey now, don't give me that face," Shinji reassures her, laying a hand on her shoulder and forcing a smile. "We all have things we don't look like doing, but the Evas are important. What's a little out of body experience once in awhile if it means everyone will be safe? They're the best chance we've got against the Angels, so it makes sense to use 'em. You just gotta have faith in me, Cagalli. I'll be okay."
Cagalli smiles back, nodding. "Yeah... you came back from something like that, so I guess there isn't much to worry about huh?" It's kind of a total lie, not that she'd admit it.
"Shinji! Are you... really okay?"

Cagalli sighs and crosses her arms. "The Evas seem to be dangerous in a lot of ways I could have never guessed."

He narrows his eyes a little. "I blame people."
