Shakespeare wrote fanfiction so I'm in the clear. Anyway, the only writer whose opinion I'd care about is Dr. Seuss (I'd never write fanfiction of his work, but I should do a month of fanfiction where I mention him and his work), who is dead so he can't say anything.
