Thanks to http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2007/10/23/j-k-rowling-on-dumbledore-revelation-i-m-not-kidding I found Victoria Ahern's Rowling knew early on Dumbledore was gay which has interesting (and this time IMO sensible) points about the timing of the "revelation" of this "background information".
