Association Meme: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.
ralst gave me these:
1. Squirrels - *grins* I did post once about squirrels. Macho black ones, if I remember rightly. I do tend to bang on about wildlife quite a lot. I'm lucky enough to live in a place where it's all around me and I pay attention. Squirrels...are amazing - they scamper and drop and jump from twig to twig so fast; they aren't fazed if branches break. If you watch carefully they use their tails as balance.
2. Merlin - Since Doctor Who started up again, Saturday night has been a good source of 'one size fits all' drama. Merlin is a great example of this. I was dubious at first but got completely sucked in by ep 2 or 3. It is so beautifully written, filmed and acted. The casting is perfect. It works well on many levels - for kids and adults. And so clever in the subtext. So much potential for so many hookups. Something for everyone.
3. Gritty British crime dramas - I've been told I could commit the perfect crime and get away with it because I'm an expert now. Psh. Everyone knows they're developing new methods of detection all the time...
But yeah, for as long as I can remember, right from when I was young - Crown Court and Juliet Bravo, anyone? I especially love it when there's a good adaptation of a book. Plots matter - I like to be surprised; I get cross when I can guess the ending. Gore...is okay if there's a point to it. I don't like the recent trend for overt social commentary. If it's about an 'issue' be subtle and let me enjoy the drama.
4. Floods/Power cuts - for anyone who might have missed it(!) my house got flooded a year and a half ago. I'm half convinced it could happen again at any time - I have been looking and enquiring and to my surprise I'm actually not paranoid - it's a definite possibility. Another tick in the box of reasons I should move. And power cuts...happen from time to time. Like I need an excuse to get fish and chips for dinner...
5. Mallory (yes,
ralst, you're right) - ...is a detective in a series of books by Carol O'Connell. I love those books because they're easy to read. I'll concede that O'Connell doesn't do dark and gory to the same impressive extent as a lot of the contemporary crime writers. Her plots aren't always as intricate. But Mallory is properly charming. It's around 4 years since I read one of her books. But I can clearly remember Mallory shooting a giant carnival balloon dog. Which says something, surely?
