February Movies

I'm keeping a list of movies I watch and books I read this year.

Taken
If you want to watch Liam Neeson talk in a gruff voice and beat the crap out of 50 thousand people, this movie is for you. It was so unbelievable and there were so many fight scenes they actually got boring. His daughter, whom he is trying to save, is a spoiled brat and elicits no sympathy. The tall one and I spent the whole movie hoping she'd die.

Gran Torino
As with any Clint Eastwood movie, Clint Eastwood is the only actor in this. Actually, that's not entirely true--there were some good young talents in here, but the actor opposite Mr. Eastwood made it painfully obvious he was a novice. The movie drags in some parts and is trite in others, but if you don't mist up with manly tears at the end, or during the credits when Clint Eastwood is singing about his Gran Torino, you have no soul.

12 Angry Men
I did not expect to like this one very much, but it turned out to be a favorite. It's low-budget, but the acting is awesome and the plot is very intricate. Plus, Henry Fonda is so handsome and compassionate, and his character is a good model for liberals--be kind, but firm.

Wristcutters
This one is a blend of surrealism and romance. It's not quite tragic, nor is it truly funny...It's quirky and light-hearted, considering the subject, but no real surprises. It's good if you're looking for something absurd, but the plot sort of ambles around, never really deciding on anything. I enjoyed it, but it's not one I would rush out to go buy.
