Imagination Prompts: Mother's Wedding
Describe your mother's wedding dress. What do you know about her wedding?
To my knowledge, I have never seen her wedding kimono. Perhaps when I was very young, under eight years old. They were not wealthy by any means so I imagine it was of medium quality with the head pieces having been passed down -- but again I am guessing. I only have two or three photographs of my mother but one of them is the ceremony/dress:
I know little about the wedding. Their anniversary was May 5, 1983 -- my mother wanted to be a Spring bride because she thought it was good luck. I imagine a psychic was involved in that decision -- she could be extremely superstitious. It was a very traditional ceremony with a very Western reception. My father was sick that week -stomach flu if I remember the story correctly- and even had to leave the reception early. They were going to postpone the wedding but members of their family already flew in and apparently my father insisted they carry on.
