What are my Health Goals for 2014?

Mar 03, 2014 17:28

My main Health goal for 2014 is to be healthier.  Even I know that is very subjective.  But it's meant to be.  I did that on purpose.  I have not been living a very healthy lifestyle - It hasn't been Horrible, but it definitely hasn't been healthy.  Here is a list of What I know is wrong:
  1. Constant Back & Joint Pain
  2. No Energy
  3. No Flexibility
  4. No Balance
  5. I'm out of breath all the time
  6. I have no Strength in my arms
  7. My Eyesight is getting weak
  8. I have no Focus
  9. The Circulation in my left arm is getting crappy again.
  10. Waking up with Headaches
  11. 78.5 pounds overweight
That's just a few of a host of things I know is wrong.  What am I prepared to do?  Well, I'm going to be the CEO of Wellness.  I'm going to start taking control of my health.  Little steps combined with a couple of big ones sprinkled in here and there is how I'm going to get this march underway.  The main cause of a lot of my issues ... is my weight.  And being of a certain age, there may be some other factors other than Food that may be helping to add on the pounds.  Hormones and Circulatory issues to name a couple.  Those Doctor assisted issues are going on the back burner for a little bit while I try a couple of things that I can control right now with a few small changes.  First I am trying to add water to my regimen.  I have never been a huge drinker of water... I've mainly drank anything but water my whole life.  Well, I know that needs to change so I've made that a sub-goal.  I started with making a rule at the beginning of the year to take a bottle of water to drink in the morning on my way to work.  I then need to fill up that bottle to drink on the way home.  The point of that being that I had 2 hours in the day dedicated to drinking water - almost 34 ounces of water.  34 more ounces than I was drinking to begin with.  I could measure and keep track of what I was drinking in my head.  Some days I found myself refilling that bottle in the middle of the day!  So That's good!  Its working!

I've been trying to cut out processed sugar from my diet.  I know how hard that is.  I've done it before.  I feel I need to up my proteins and lower my Carbs.  I know that I do better with less Carbs particularly the complex ones.  So less processed sugars more Fruit.  I actually think I'm going to go back to my Atkins for a couple of weeks (the induction) and then slowly bring in the right carbs.  I talk a good game, but this "little step" is probably the most difficult.

Activity.  Well, I need to move.  Less IPad,TV and surfing... more projects getting done, playing with the dogs and exercise!  So that's where the FitBit comes in.  It's helping to get my butt moving.  The numbers are driving me to move that counter.  I check it often and add more steps.  I'm not waiting to get a bunch of things to take downstairs all at once, when something needs to go downstairs... I take it.  You'd be surprised how much that's helping.  Also I heard something the other day about Mini-habits.  Set the bar so low that you can't help but not succeed.  Start with 1 push-up a day.  You can't help but do more while you're down there.  So I've started exercising in the morning - with 1 push-up as the requirement.  Well, I am proud to say that each day I've done 10 push-ups and 20 sit-ups while I'm down there.  Yes it's a far cry from 75 push-ups and 200 sit-ups in less than 5 minutes that I used to do... 15 years ago.  But hopefully I'll work my way back there.

It's all just Baby steps.  I didn't get here overnight... though it seems like it. ...  But if I just keep trying and start to focus on a Healthier Lifestyle... it will come.
