Rose says (in not so many words) that I am never happy with my house. I would have to agree ... mostly. In the past I have had small idea and of course big Ideas of what I would like to do to the house. I have rarely had the money, skills or the time to complete them correctly or at all. Funny thing is... when I don't complete them, I keep changing the original idea. But when I do complete them, I am pretty happy with it and tend to just tweak here and there as time goes by...
ie the eat-in kitchen area project. I have pretty much left it alone. Yes I did move the TV down from it's spot above the cabinet to on the butcherblock counter top. But I did that mainly... because my eyesight has gotten so bad I couldn't see it where it was. The other side of the kitchen has always bothered me. The countertops, the ugly green wall laminate, the white appliances and of course the height of the cabinets. But I haven't tried to do anything with it because of lessons I learned with the Deck and the Eat-In Kitchen...
- Make a plan .
- Make a Budget.
- Save For it.
- Do any changes to the plans that I'm going to do.
- Do the Project.
When I was done with the Deck and the Eat-In Kitchen... I didn't have lingering bills or lingering plans (which left them open for changing) out there. They were done and that was that.
My Bedroom Porject (yes I misspelled it on purpose - I didn't do it on purpose on facebook... that was an accident) is nearly complete. It has some lingering plans, but I don't think they are subject to much change. Other than moving some furniture out, getting a new bed or a flat screen TV. Other than that... I am extrememly happy and there won't be a lot of changes. But it took years to get there. I had different Ideas about the headboard and I alwys did them on the cheap and they were never a longterm solution. But last year my idea about using an old salvaged door was really my first towards a more longterm solution that I had for a Headboard. I had even thought out ways it could be versatile down the road as tastes might change (with interchangable inserts). It was a pretty cool idea, but I could never find the right door at the right price. Then the opportunity came along with all the surplus wood from the sitting room. Now I didn't come up with the
headboard idea overnight... I worked it out in my head for quite awhile ... like a month or 3. And am very pleased with the result and I call it complete.
Now we have to talk about the everchanging Living Room which is really what brought this whole blog entry about. I moved stuff around slightly in there again. I moved the Blue Couch downstairs, pulled the big-Butt chair out of the front guest room, combined some shelves and cubes together and put feet on them, moved the subwoofer, added a light and put the dog beds in another room.
Before pictures... You have seen them before (may 27th 2008)
After the slight furniture arranging.
Not a huge difference. But for about $27 (2 pair of feet on the mini tower and a table top dimmer switch for the yellow wall light) I was able to gain more space in my living room. It's a little easier to clean, it feels more comfy and it utilize things I already have and were cluttering up other rooms. Low cost (with no job - it's a requirement) and quick.
Now is that how it's going to stay... NO. I know this. My plans so far that I have locked into are:
- Mount a / the flat screen over the fireplace.
- cabinets in the fireplace chases.
- New furniture that is size appropriate for the room (leather to repel dog hair)
- get rid of pizza parlor railing and replace with a wall.
But I don't have a job which means I don't have the money for this rebuild. I could have done it a year ago... but I didn't have the skills for the wiring and I was still completely trying to work the design out in my head before putting it down on paper.
Now for the Media room...
I moved the Big 31" TV back downstairs to the media room then gym then back to media and dog room. It was placed in the old corner unit from my bedroom. The big blue couch went downstairs for seating... and "Voila" (that's french for Taaa Daaa) a nice little out of the way place to watch tv and relax with the dogs.
Is it done... No. I have future plans that rely on the Living Room Plans. The furniture will be replaced with the stuff from upstairs. All the things that are downstairs will only go out the door... not anywhere else in the house. But this is a media room for sure and for now on. At least that is longterm.
So that is the furniture arranging update ... so far.
