I have turned a corner...

Sep 21, 2009 09:19

Here is a box of financial crap for the last 10 years.  That includes mortgage papers, paystubs, cancelled checks, bank statements, tax records and pretty much every single receipt (excluding grocery)... Yes 10 years of it.

I was mainly just taking out the receipts and entering them into an excel spreadsheet to keep a record and then I was going to trash them.

After completing 2009 and nearly 2008, I hit a point where I thought..."What's the point?"

I didn't claim anything extra those years.

Here's the corner.
I don't need a record of them.  Just throw the little bastards away.

So I am, mostly.  I am keeping the big ticket items s I can staple them to the warrantys and The Home Depot / Lowes reciepts.  I think that would be interesting to see on a project by project basis.

I'll put an after picture up when I finish this little project.
*****UPDATE 5:30pm******
I have gone through all 10 years worth.  I threw away nearly every receipt expt for the ones in 2001 (the year I was a contractor on my taxes) and all the home improvement receipts... those will be entered into an excel spreadsheet and then I will toss them.  here's the follow up after pictures.

The black trash bag is full of all the paper I took out of there.  Some shredded some not.  It doesn't look like much, but in person it makes a pretty big impression.  I was able to drop all the paper in half.  All that's left is paystubs and cancelled checks.  I sealed that box up and put it in the Tornado closet.  I don't want to keep tripping over this junk.
