I meet Andie of The Waysiders and she tells me that she's been reading my blog. Well, of course my jaw dropped. It is always a shock that there are more people out there reading my little corner of the world than I think. I always thought is was Phat, johnnie, Rose, Allen, occassionally Robert when he finds a few minutes, Goss when she's actually home, the boxerpeople, Lisa and I sometimes hear from the Bobble - selector 23, Doug reads it and he tells Linda, and Joe used to till my blog got blocked at ups. I always had an inkling that Rebel read it and so did Kenneth Pruitt, but they tended to just check to see if their names were mentioned. Jason and Marianne used to read it, but I don't think they do so much anymore. So that was my idea of my audience. I am sure it is more than that now. Well, I got my wake-up call yesterday. Now that I put all these people down in a list... That is a bunch of people. Wow.
The funny thing is that Andie (of The Waysiders) and I were talking that that I had contractors coming to the house to put in the door. She says to me "You should learn to do those projects yourself... You could save a lot of money."
She didn't know this was the first time I had hired this stuff out. She only started reading. She didn't know about the wall and pocket door, the deck, the flooring, the garage project, cabinets in the kitchen, all the brick retaining walls, the other deck, the screen doors, the LaRue projects, habitat for humanity, all the electrical work..etc... It struck me funny.
All I can say (and I personally have said it before) ... Is that she is sooooo right. A ton of money can be saved if you do things yourself. I couldn't have done the kitchen redo and the floors for $2000 If I had hired someone. No way. Maybe the kitchen or the kitchen/livingroom floors, but not both. Basically and typically Labor is equal to cost of materials at least in carpentry. Along with saving money, I am totally all for Girl Power. Do it ourselves and we'll know its done right. But this little project had some issues that I really didn't want to learn on my house how to deal with. And I wanted it done in one day For sure no excuses. And it was...
Taking the old window out. No going back...
It's almost there... Done Deal!!!! It's a Door...
Now I just have to pick up the screen door and install it. Then I have to put pavers outside the door and VOILA!!!! instant life changer. For me and Dogapotamus - Lucy. The Puppies have tried it out already and don't understand where the door came from and where did those guys go.
These guys did a phenomenal job. I just have to do some touch up painting around the trim and I have already re-keyed the locks myself. So I am ready to start tackling getting the roof put on.
