He's never devoted much thought, or time, to the game of chess before this week.

He knows how to play, of course, Alfred made certain of that. But it never captured his interest in his youth, troubled as he was by other things, and when later on, under Ducard's... Ra's's... tutelage, he found a talent for strategy, there were other outlets for it, much more immediately useful.

This week has involved... a lot of making up for lost time. Books and computer programs, and more than a couple of boards set up in the cave. And coaching from Alfred. Enormous amounts of that.

Always aware that there are lives at stake. Always with the final intent of stopping the Riddler's latest endeavor. Bringing him back in. A game may be the theme. But it still isn't one.
